Game and Software Development Projects

Projects

The following is a list of projects that I have worked on in the past and also what I'm currently doing.

Untitled RPG

My Mobile RPG that I was developing ran into some pitfalls, so I sidestepped and used a lot of the same framework as the basis for a PC/Console-based RPG.
The assets are finally starting to come along, some of which can be seen below.
I have a roadmap all laid out, with a story, NPCs, enemies, and environments all designed. It's just a case of implementing it all, which is the most time-consuming thing.
And I still don't even have a working title for it yet!

Phase Blaster

Phase Blaster is an action-puzzle game that has been released on Google Play.

Forbidden Realms

This game was produced as part of my University thesis - the project involved creating a 3D game from scratch. I ended up making a 3D turn-based RPG based on a board game theme. The outcome was a fairly flawed game but it was created in conjunction with the aforementioned thesis being written (which can be accessed below for more details).
The project taught me a lot, mostly about time-management and the many facets of game design and production. This particular game featured many things that are almost impossible to undertake alone (but I tried anyway) such as 3D modelling and animation, motion capture, asset and level design, not to mention the coding required to make it all work.

Xmas

This game was a Christmas present for my wife! It is a 2D side-scrolling platformer starring her. She had to collect all the presents in order to gain them in real life. This was very difficult to make without her knowing about it!

Mobile RPG In Progress

Not even a working-title for this one yet but it's been on the go for some time now. I've been trying to create an RPG basically from the ground-up, building it around mobile devices and touch-screen functionality. Most of the technical work has actually been done and there's a basic combat framework in-place. Now the biggest task is still to be done - designing and implementing all the art assets, animations and UI. The only art and animation in-place at the moment is for the protagonist, which may also get changed.

Chips Challenge

This one was another birthday present for my wife. Growing up, one of her favourite games on PC was Chip's Challenge (to see the orginal, follow this https://store.steampowered.com/app/346850/ChipsChallenge1/).
For her birthday I reconstructed the basic game mechanics using Unity and I used/altered some of the game's sprites so that I could make her own level. She had to collect actual chips for dinner rather than computer chips!

Dark Edge Rising

Dark Edge Rising is...difficult to explain. This is an earlier example of me trying to create a 2D side-scrolling platformer. It was based off a film my friends made when we were kids and it was a Star Wars parody. So there's a bullet-hell section in this game followed by some platforming and bullet-deflection combat (using a "laser sword").

Acquisition

The first game I made in Unity, this project was done as part of a module at University (at the same time as making the above Forbidden Realms project). The idea was to create a survival based story game, with my limited time and resources forcing me to use still images to forward the plot. The gameplay itself was similar to things like Rust and The Forest where you must pick up resources and craft basic survival gear to allow you to stop from freezing to death and to progress.
